Marketing, Communications and Site Redesign (Graduate Assistant Role)

The Center for Transformative Action at Mills sits within the Lokey School of Business. Originally launched with the goal of making “social responsibility” the cornerstone of MBA programs at Mills, the CTA now works toward transformative change in our communities. We redesigned the site in 2020 to improve accessibility and improve the look and feel.

As Marketing and Communications graduate assistant, I designed marketing materials, assisted in event planning (Zoom seminars and in person), managed social media and rebuilt the website, below. We focused on highlighting the beautiful photos of past CTA events, but foremost, making a site that was more accessible overall. This included a simple layout and large, high contrast text, as well as an effort to make in-person events more accessible to all.

The CTA is a student-run project led by Dr. Darcelle Lahr, Professor of Business Practice and director of the CTA at Mills. The CTA hosts events, including an annual conference, which bring the Oakland community together to discuss and work through systemic economic, social, and educational inequities that impact the lives of Oaklanders (and beyond). The full day conference is comprised of non-traditional plenaries, workshops and discussions that are designed to break normalized structures of power by including everyone in the discussion and planning for the future.

In 2020, Covid-19 caused a cancellation of the in-person conference, and the team was able to pivot several of the panels online. See more info about the CTA here.
